Image of Warren State Hospital Warren State Hospital

This section is dedicated to my ongoing research of the history of Warren State Hospital, North Warren, PA.  I am looking at people who were involved with the hospital, what types of things had an impact on the functioning of the hospital, what life was like at various times, and even what impact the hospital has had on its surrounding area.  Because of confidentiality laws, and out of respect for any living relatives, I won’t be posting anything I happen to come across about specific patients. I may share general information found in information about patients that give an idea of what life was like for patients, but only in general terms.

My interest is in learning what I can about the history of Warren State Hospital in an effort to better understand current thinking about the treatment of those with mental illnesses. In addition to hopefully being able to give input into what could be done better or differently in the future.

This is an excerpt from “The Handbook of Social Laws of Pennsylvania” talking about PL 1874 pg. 333 relating to what is now Warren State Hospital
