Language tends to change over time, and I’m finding that terms I would presently consider to be harsh or unjust in many ways, were at one time considered appropriate. My use of terms such as lunatic and asylum for example are not meant to be derogatory, but rather to aid in conveying what history shows me.   • Alienist - a doctor specializing in the treatment of mental illness (“alienist”)
  • Moral Treatment - “an approach to mental disorder based on humane psychosocial care or moral discipline that emerged in the 18th century” (Wikipedia)
